My mom was the master of teaching props. I can still remember the suspense as she would come out with her ‘Mystery Box’ and the children would all wait with eager anticipation to see what she would pull out this week! While it would only be some simple object that would enhance her lesson, the suspense she created was electric! She’d reach in, and then stop to make another point, as we sat on the edge of our seats wondering, “What’s in the box this week?” Finally, it would be revealed – and while it could be the most ordinary object, it became memorable because of how she used it to explain something to us young kids. The best teachers understand the power of props.

So when and where should you use props?
