I define a KID as “a unique, one-of-a-kind individual who wants FUN and needs LOVE. There is a lot packed into this definition that if grasped will have a huge impact on how you relate to children.

First of all, let me focus on the word 'unique'. Every kid is different. They need to be loved, accepted, and taught on an individual basis...even when in a group. Think about whether you tend to gravitate toward certain kids. How do you think that makes the others feel? It is critical to grasp that, while all children are different, they all have the same value and are worthy of the same love and acceptance. Be careful not to favor the 'good kids'. It is the 'tough kids' who need our love the most! There is a reality that the 'good kids' probably come from strong healthy homes and have parents who are influential in their lives. But the 'problem kids' are starving for our positive influence. Do you realize they are the ones that will someday say their life is different because they knew you?
