Be (or become) the one who puts in the most effort. 

When I was a boy, my dad would often say to me, “Karl, a job half-done is a job not done at all.” I disagreed. As I looked at the job I had left half-done and watched my dad finishing it and listened to him lecturing me, I would disagree thinking privately, “No, it’s still half done,” but I knew better than to share that thought with him. He was clearly annoyed at me for leaving the job half-done and him to finish it.

Funny how your perspective changes as you get older.

Now that I’m a father of a teenage son, I find myself saying often, “Luke, a job half-done is a job not done at all.”
