As children hold a string, they take a step back each time Joseph exercises faith and trust in God. The string is compared to faith the “size of a mustard seed” as Jesus explained in the parable of the Mustard Seed.

Scripture:

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. James 1:2-3

I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you” Matthew 17:20-21

Genesis 37:2-36, 39-23; 40-50

Hebrews 11:22

Materials Needed:

Hyper-flex Mondo Stretchy String (made by Play Visions)
Tape Measure
Mustard Seed

Volunteers Needed:

Two Volunteers to hold the ends of the string.
One Volunteer to hold the end of the tape measure

Now, this rope doesn’t look all that long does it? Let’s measure it. (Ask volunteers to hold the string and face each other.)

I’d like to tell you a bit about Joseph in the Old Testament and how his faith and trust in God grew through what he experienced.
