Neo is a tiny caterpillar who wishes he were anything but himself. While other animals leap, soar, and sprint through the meadow, Neo can only crawl. When a confident bunny shows off his hopping skills, Neo decides he’s had enough of being small and slow. He tries to change himself — with surprising results.

But sometimes the most important changes happen when we’re not even aware of them.

In this heartwarming story about comparison, patience, and trusting God’s plan, Neo discovers that being “new” doesn’t always look the way we expect.

I act this out with a bunny puppet and a caterpillar puppet (no puppet stage, just out front) with removable wings that make it a butterfly once put back on. But you can also just tell the story...

Neo the Caterpillar's New Life!

Once upon a time, in a bright green meadow filled with wildflowers and tall waving grass, there lived a very small caterpillar named Neo.

Neo was tiny.

Very tiny.

And very, very slow.

If you watched him crawl across a leaf, you could count to fifty… twice… and he’d still be inching along.

Neo spent his days doing what caterpillars do best.

Crunch.

Nibble.

Chomp.

Munch.

Leaves for breakfast.

Leaves for lunch.

Leaves for dinner.

And while leaves are delicious if you’re a caterpillar… Neo wasn’t very happy.
One morning, as he slowly crawled along a branch, he sighed.

“I don’t like being a caterpillar,” he said. “I crawl everywhere. I’m small. I don’t hop. I don’t run. I don’t fly. I just… crawl.”

Just then— WHOOSH!

A bright red bird swooped overhead.

Neo looked up in awe.

“Wow,” he whispered. “I wish I could fly like that.”
