Loved the review and I went to see the movie last night. I found it a very good movie. As you mentioned in the review the suspense and violence is a little bit more than the first. But I also liken it to the suspense and violence of TV shows in the 70's, were many of the things are IMPLIED and it is YOUR imagination that fills in the details. The story line was good and for about 130+ minutes it went by rather quickly. I really want to take both of these some day and incorporate them into a lesson series. That is something for me in the future.

I agree the time seemed to go by quickly, but for younger children it might not keep their attention like Disney Cars did.

My 7-year old son and 5-year old daughter loved the movie. There was some plot twists that we had to explain, but overall it was the best movie we've seen as a family in a while.

When the credits were rolling my son said, "Can we get the DVD when it comes out?"

I've been reading the novel to my 2 sons (8 and 10)which prepared them for this amazing movie...we discussed the differences between the movie and the novel and agreed that the film makers did an excellent job with the material. The movie led to some great dialogue about faith, being willing to stand alone, and the dangers of not seeking God.
I found this sequel was more engaging than the first (and I loved the first), as well as offering some really crucial questions we need to ask ourselves in our commitment to follow Christ. I'm so thrilled for my sons that they are at an age where they can appreciate this great series that teaches such godly principles.

My wife and I just took our kids (7&9) to this today. My family enjoyed it and actually my wife, my 9 year old son and myself gave this movie a 4 out of 5. My 7 year old daughter gave it a 3.5 because of some of the couple intense scenes that were in there.

One of the items I enjoyed was that everytime a sword was used, you could see that sword again and it was a shiny as before it was used. Ahhh no blood!! My daughter liked that as well.

I saw the movie after reading the book again (I read it years ago to my kids when they were little).  It was very well done.

Before seeing the movie I read a review that Mr Gresham (C.S. Lewis' Step-son) who controls the content of the movies - made a point to portray the sin of pride - particularily Peter's.  This was fascinating to watch throughout the movie as Peter did indeed wrestle with his pride.  It also stated in this article that he (Mr Gresham) made changes in the movie (from the book) and he felt that his step-father would have approved of.

Some parts of the book were missing, while some scenes were added. The attack on the castle was one of the added parts - which I feel was added in to exemplify the extent of Peter's pride.

All in all it was a great movie and I am thrilled that it is doing so well at the box-office.  It's not often that a movie with such great Christian symbolisms is playing where I can refer the familes at church to go and see : )

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! AMAZING! I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! I will be writing about it on my blog soon and will post a link. But I don't think I've described a film a "flawless" in a very very long time... Price Caspian was what movies are supposed to be. Everything negative I've heard I completely disagree with. This was a masterpiece of a film - one of those rare ones you sit stunned at the end wishing it wasn't over.

"Wow" is an understatement. "Perfect" doesn't go far enough. More later....

I thought it was just "ok." I don't think it achieved the greatness of the first movie.

Wow. Granted, no movie can satisfy everyone, but I'm curious what movies you consider more than "ok" - that was one superb movie. Fast paced, great editing, good humor, but not too much, and spectacular special effects and LOADED with biblical references that I know only biblically literate people catch. (I wonder how many even the creators were aware of?)

I thought it was right up there with the first. No sequel can ever "equal" the first, since the first "took us there" and introduced us to a place and its characters, so I never expect a sequel to live up the experience of the first - but ironically I thought this one came as close as any ever has.

I plan to see this in theaters again soon.

for me, one of the signs of a great movie is when you can't stop thinking about it. (unless of course, you are thinking about how bad it was!) But often I can't remember the last movie I saw... and that tells you a lot about a movie... but Price Caspian has me still thinking about all the humor, teaching points, biblical references, plot twists, etc. I think I am going to have to just go see it again.

I agree Karl...The movie gave me alot to think about some of it the same that others have already mentioned.  I can see how someone might not like the movie.  I thought the dialague was a little bland and the humor wasn't that great.  However the movie was good and I would say on par with the first.

I actually liked it better than the first - the test for me is in the re-watchability - I will watch this over and over and as much as I loved the first one, I listen to the sound track more than I watch it. LWW is quite slow as far as movies go. I have movies playing alot while I work in my home office, this will be a regular. (The Count of Monte Cristo playing right now an awesome film)

In the first movie, everything had to be set up for the viewers.  In the second movie, the viewers know Narnia and the characters.  They were able to dive right into the action with this one.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give Prince Caspien an 11.

I had an evening alone last night so I went and saw it again! I can't even remember the last time I saw a movie twice (other than going with another group) or if I have EVER gone to a movie alone. (I felt like such a looser with all the couples and teens there, and there I was all alone with my popcorn and drink.)

It was fantastic again. Funny, I dreamed last night that I hid when they checked tickets and watched it a third time... even though there really was no midnight showing. (When I got out)

Now I am definitely of the opinion that it was better than the first. Next one is May 7th, 2010... that's a long time to wait!

2010? Man that is painfully long...but at this rate they'll be making movies until 2020?

Just a reminder that Prince Caspian is available on DVD as of December 2. If you pick up the disc, why not compliment it with Kidology's Prince Caspian Companion Study?

Thus ends my promotional announcement!

I saw it and was shocked at the amount of violence.  The first movie (Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe) I was actually able to edit out the violence and use it for teaching.  But I can't even begin to think that I could use this for teaching - there would be nothing left after taking out the "mature" and "violent" content.  I wouldn't endorse this movie for any child under 12 years of age.

I agree, I wouldn't show this at church, there is a lot more violence. As for age of child, that is a parent's call, kids are all different, and hopefully parents know their kids enough to evaluate a film. I have several friends (parents) who I admire because they actually go see a film before they just blindly take their kids. Of cours, with DVDs, its a little easier to see it before your kids. But there are FEW films you can just show at church without ending up with issues with parents as opinions will be across the board from both extremes. Clips are possible, but still risky. I have very rarely used a clip from a secualar movie in my teaching. Early in my ministry I once just mentioned a scene from "Big" (didn't show a clip) and had a kid tell his Dad I recommended the film, and got a little heat for that, as not all of that movie is appropriate for children. He was kind, but correctly pointed out I need to be careful what I mention as well as what I actually show.

But I loved this film and the biblical messages laced throughout the whole thing and look forward to the day when my little boy will be old enough to watch, and that's a looooong ways away.

We watched this at home last night again, my 3rd grader kept running in and out of the room when it got too intense or gory.  Actually I was sacked out in my room from a head cold.  My 5th grader was fine and my older ones fine.

I really like this movie.  Once I'm over my cold, I can't wait to see it again.

Talking about playing clips from secular films...I used one from Karate Kid about perserverence.  I had one of those dvd players that screened out all the cussing at home, so when I played it at home, I totally did not notice that the actor cussed so much.  It would just blank out the phrase, and he cussed so quickly that I did not notice it (sometimes it's very noticable...long moments with no words).  So, when I played it at church, which did not have "tv guardian" on the player....OOOPS!    i was mortified...

I just found this thread again.

Trying to remember my impressions...

I think Disney tried to pour the Caspian story into the LOTR's mold. They really (over emphasized) the epic battle.

I think the challenge was in the story. There was a changing of the guard in whose story it was. There was a shift from the four siblings to Prince Caspian.

That's not the fault of the film makers, but it is very unusual in film to continue the story but to replace most of the major players.

I don't know if it could have been done better. But the final experience was less satisfying.
