We're posting this week a reminder in our bulletin about well child policies and letting parents in our toddler rooms know that we disinfect our toys after useage by children. This is particularly happening because we have had some inquiries after the swine flu publicity. It's stuff we've always done but we're just making sure that we are proactive.
Any of you doing or addressing anything with regards to this?

I will probably be letting parents know that we are going to be cautious about kids that seem sick in the children's ministry...and ask them in light of the outbreak, that they not bring their sick children to church. Depending on the upcoming info being released, we might send kids with symptoms of being ill home.

We have not done that yet, but we are very vigilant on this issue every week.

I'm waiting to see how it all pans out...not really an immediate threat in OC, but I'm hearing schools are closing down in other parts of the country.
I just sent a reminder email out to families to remind them to keep their sick kids at home...don't want to be overly alarming but not to ignore the issue either.

I think its a good idea to be proactive in many cases, simply so parents and families know that we are taking their child's health and safety seriously.
It just so happens that this week is the week for me to go haul stuff out for a really deep cleaning. We use the disinfectant wipes, and sprays on things week by week, but since we don't have our own facility or access to space to really scrub, bleach, rinse etc, it does mean an extra effort to bring them home and do it. So I'll be swinging by to get them today and probably spend tomorrow doing that. Not specifically BECAUSE of the swing flu, but if someone asks we can then tell them things were done soon, and let them know our weekly policy as well.

We've got a school closed with a "Probable case" of Swine Flu. So last night the Sr. Pastor got a little grief because we put up a sign reminding parents not to bring in kids with flu-like symptoms, and asking those that have been asked not to come to school, also "not attend services tonight." I get to go speak at the board meeting tonight to discuss if we're going to have a sign up on Sunday. Oh yay. Better go home and shave--Not.

From our congregation, we had two city systems close for 2 days and one county system closed. One school system has updated and closed all elementary schools closed until May 13th.
We decided to leave the decision of whether to put their children in the classroom to the parents. We did post a note on the webpage and sent an all-church email detailing our plans, how we regularly sanitize and rotate toys between services, and a reminder of our wellness policy.
Interestingly enough, it was our kindergarten class which was drastically lower in attendance - our baby classes were overflowing! Overall we were down some, but we were also inundated with rain this morning - every time just as people would be arriving for service. Our services are also broadcast live via web so I'm figuring MANY watched from home.

We had an outbreak about 30 minutes from where we are. So we have reminded parents about our well-baby policy and I've been reminding our volunteers to wipe down all chairs and tables with clorox wipes and we are cleaning all toys in the nursery after every Sunday with bleach and water.
We have posted in our bulletin the well baby policy and letting parents know that we disinfect the rooms and toys.

I am children's pastor and was diagnosed with swine flu yesterday. Doctor told me to stayed quarintined until Monday but that he usually says three days depending on severity. Probably wouldn't hurt to let people know that there is a case in the church.

We had a child diagnosed with h1n1 on a sunday evening a couple weeks ago after he and his siblings attended church that morning. Our staff contacted the parents of the other children in the class with him. The virus apparently only takes 24-48 hours to reveal itself if you've caught it.
We also posted signs at the doors of all our children's rooms advising parents not to leave children who are experiencing flu-like symptoms of any nature.
Also we have put our policy in the bulletin for the whole church and have placed hand sanitizer at all entrance/exit areas and in the kids rooms.
It is quite rampant in our area right now, fortunately most cases have been mild. I think you have a responsibility to alert those with whom you've been in contact with the information that you, or someone else in that group is sick with h1n1. If there is an immune-compromised child it puts them at great risk and they need to know.

H1N1 (or the hiney virus as kids are calling it here) has swept through our area. It was so bad that my SP even sent a Calling Post call to all of our members (well over 2,500) to tell them to stay home if they are sick, etc. He also reviewed our policies about sick kids.
We have also gone into hand sanitizing frenzy in our Children's Ministry. Kids can't get a snack off of the snack table unless they use it...or wash with soap and water. Because of the high profile of this illness, the kids get it and don't mind. I keep the stuff in my pocket at all times and use it frequently.

I will say I have had several inquiries about clean/santizing procedures and policies as well as well child policies.
The only negative or minor issue is that I have had a few kids who were sick and the Dr's thought they might have H1N1, however, the parents did not pay for the add'l test to verify H1N1. Thankfully, they stayed home and away from other kids. Bad note, we didn't know if they were just sick or was H1N1...

I have heard from a researcher and a nurse that the best thing to use is soap and water. Antibacterial soaps and handsantizer are not really as good for you as you might think. What they do is strip your hands from all of the good and bad germs plus they leave .1% of germs on your hands. The advice I have been given is soap and water scrubbing hands for the length of the alphabet.
We are trying to just keep up with cleaning our rooms and toys as best as pssoible. Thankfully people have been great about not bringing their sick children to a class. The other that is nice is a lot of the mothers stay in contact with each other through facebook if their children does end up having something.
Have a great day in the Lord!
