We have a small collection of worship videos (Shout Praises, Hillsong, and others we have collected) that we would like to extract individual videos condense into a single library. Changing between CD's, even ones copied onto the CPU, looses the attention of the children, so we usually have to stick with one CD. We tried a couple of methods suggested on the web, but most loose the sing along words (some Shout Praises CD's) or don't work at all because there aren't individual VOB files for each song (Hillsong CD's). Does anyone know of a free or inexpensive program that will extract these individual videos?...or have another suggestion? Thank you for any advice you can give.

The easiest and least expensive way for you to switch between videos if they are on separate DVD's is to have two DVD players and a small monitor for each of them sot that you can que up a video and get it ready to play.   You can then buy a simple AV switcher which is available at any place that sells Televisions for under $30 and use it to switch between the two DVD players and send them to the output.

Pinnacle video software will allow you to capture the videos to your computer and then reformat them to AVI, Windows Media or another format to play through a computer or put back on a DVD.  The software itself will cost you around $100 but you will also need a compatible capture card and the right hardware configurations for your computer.

With Pinnacle you will need a regular DVD player to attach to the computer through the capture card because you will not be able to capture them through the DVD drive in the computer.  The process is pretty simple and can be learned quickly.

To get your files of of DVD and put them onto your computer you can use software called mpeg streamclip.

Check the "converting .mov to .avi" section of this article I wrote:
http://www.kidology.org/page.asp?i=171

Instead of opening up a file that's already on your computer insert the DVD into the drive and browse to it through the open window in MPEG Streamclip.

Go into the video folder and then open a few of the files. Each .vob file is 1 chapter of the DVD... so with some searching around you can find the correct video to pull from. Then export to .avi as the instructions in the article tell you to.

Our current set-up is similar to what Gerry suggests. Two DVD players w/ S-video connected to AV switcher (from Radio Shack) and the RCA video (yellow) connected to a small TV monitor (that has two inputs).

But recently I've found something even simpler.

I now use DVDRemaster to move my DVD clips into iTunes. I then set up a playlist for each week, update my iPod, dock my iPod in the Phillips iPod Dock that connects to the AV switcher and from there to the projection and sound system. The Phillips Dock comes with a remote that I can use from the stage if I don't have an AV volunteer to help me some days.

That is very rarely true. Each publisher tends to have its own format. I have very rarely seen a chapter to VOB correlation. Most of the DVDs that I have seen will have several chapters on one VOB file or the VOB file is split in the middle of a chapter. (This happens more often than you might think.)

Using a DVD program that knows how to split by chapter is the only way to be sure. Fortunately, most can do it.

Clips that run longer than the chapter to VOB file style will ask if you would like to open all files. I was simply referencing most Worship DVDs. Almost all of them have each song on a separate VOB file... or the DVD will be set to create chapters every 5 mins and it will ask you if you would like to open all of them that run that time code... all of that is a little too technical for the average person just trying to pull a few songs from a few DVDs so I just left it out.

BTW: FrankTan... I'm diggin that iPod dock.

We must not be on the same level here. By "VOB file" do you mean literally the VOB files on the DVD, or are you referring to features of the program you mentioned?
