I received your book and just loved it. It reminded me of the first reason (other than God's call) I loved children's ministry. I'm challenged again. Thanks!

Karl,

Please take this in the spirit it is intended. As gently as I can I need to say--now don't get nervous, I promise this won't be too harsh--Gus rawks!. And, you're not so bad yourself!

Karl

Great podcast...one suggestion...can you post show notes? I listen while I'm doing other things and would love to be able to go somewhere to download the notes, like all the acronyms from show 3.

Karl I am enjoying all your podcast. I would enjoy them even more if they were video podcast so we could see Gus. But even without seeing Gus, they are great.

Thanks for all you do.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for these awsome podcasts!!!

i have been so inspired- as i am just starting out in childrens minisry it is great to have such awsome resourses at my fingertips. i loved the one where you said about getting on the kids level like jamming your arm in the door or putting jam on your face it was great!!! I tryed marmite/vegemite(thats all we had in the fridge) first but it looked like poos so i wiped it off and left it in the back of my mind.

I had 2 kids im my class today and i have to say that it was the best day- not because there was only 2 of them but because i was able to use the skills you have taught me spontaneusly in my own way and the kids loved it!!!!we were colouring in and i took the BLUE felt and drew all over my face with it a mostarche, beard and bushy brows- the kids loved it and as we had to walk though the older kids class to go wash it off- they loved it when i denyed it was there and then there was the youths that saw it too- it was great to be a kid again- we are breaking into new ground and your apart of it so thank you so much for the insipation and encouragement- i hope you are encouraged by this because you, gus and this site ROCKS!!!! GOD BLESS YOU!!!!

Wrapping up our summer series of podcasts, Episode 7 features an interview with AWANA's Larry Fowler, author of Rock Solid Kids, which coincidentally, you can pick up in the Kidology Store. (How's that for shameless promotion?) Larry also has a new book out -- Raising a Modern Day Joseph -- which is available exclusively from AWANA right now.

Karl and Gus spend some time getting to know "A Wise And Neato Administrator," aka AWANA's Executive Director of Global Training, Larry Fowler. Learn more about what drives the author of Rock Solid Kids and the just-released Raising a Modern Day Joseph... as well as learn what "AWANA" doesn't stand for!

If you have a passion for equipping parents to be the spiritual leaders of their kids and to see the children of your ministry grow into fully devoted disciples of Jesus, you need to hear what Larry Fowler has to say.

According to the podcast, Gus only got an Excellence and Timothy Award... what, no Meritorious Award? What a slacker!

Well, for once, I get to feel better than a talking piece of felt since I landed the Meritorious Award back in the day. (I thought about going for my Citation Award, but after enduring those "unique" JV uniforms, just couldn't put myself through it... I had a traumatic junior high/high school experience )

Slacker!! Who you calling a slacker, buddy! After my Timothy Award I was made Supreme Chancellor of Awana at my church and the Commander reported to ME, I'll have you know!

Good stuff. The podcast would be even better if the audio level was hotter. It is much lower than all the other podcasts that I listen to and I can barely hear it from my speakers from a short distance even when cranked up all the way.

Great job with all of your stuff. I would like to know how you find the time to do all that you do.

Thanks! We are working on the audio. Part of the issue with the interviews was not having a studio and doing it via a speaker phone. But we're slowing improving the quality. Thanks for the feedback, it helps!

It's not always easy, and I've not always done a good job balancing it all, but I'm learning. I'll be giving away some of my secrets in the next Leadership Lab titled, "Define, Refine and Shine!" Be watching for it!

Then let me give you all the words!

Sharks for Jesus!
Sharks to bite the world!
We are Sharks for Jesus,
As we eat each boy and girl.

We will eat you right from the start,
We will eat you with a Pop-Tart,
When we're done again we will start!

'Cuz we are Sharks! Sharks! Sharks! Sharks!
Sharks to bite the world!

(The bold is to show you what to emphasize!)

Glad you like my song, I auditioned with it for American Idol but got thrown out. Personally, I think they were discriminating against felt people!

I never listened to that one, only because I thought it was only over Awanas. My denomination has their own Awanas type ministry (Called Royal Rangers and Missionettes) I knew I would never have Awanas.

I just went in and listened now though. I came to find out that even though he does talk about Awanas he also does a great job of bringing the acrostic of B.A.S.E.D.

Karl, Excellent job, my friend. I liked it very much. Thanks for the old "Dinosaur" Plug too. You are too funny, well, I should say Gus is too funny. Enjoyed the twist with the interview. You were going for your strongest message with Kidology...best treatment I have heard yet. Barney, the same guy from your childhood. Yup, it's me!

I can't wait until the next podcast. Every time I see it downloading on iTunes I just about jump out of my seat.

I do have one question though. What do you use as a curriculum? Do you make it up every week or do you have something to go by?

I am currently full time with Kidology, but when I was a full time children's pastor, this is what I used in my ministry as far as curriculum goes:

Preschool:
     Sunday School: DiscipleLand
     Church Time: God Prints
Grade School:
     Sunday School: DiscipleLand
     Kids Church: Varies!

For Kids Church, I did "do my own thing" but often based it off some of the great curriculums available. I used 252, and many of the units found here on Kidology for sale, plus you can find a lot of my lessons in the Kids Church Lessons Zone. In 2009 I will be releasing a new Online Training series that focuses on Kids Church, so be watching for that! (I think this is the first mention on the site... so consider this a tip off!)

BY THE WAY, PODCAST #9 is now live!
