This thread is for discussion of the third Leadership Lab titled, Kid-Focused Ministry Foundations found in the Kidology Online Training area of the site.
Here we can discuss how this Lab has impacted your ministry or you can ask questions.
How did this Lab help or challenge you? Are there any questions that this lesson sparked?
Let me know, I'd love to interact with you here!

Great video. I really enjoyed the old fashion look during the time with you playing the game with your wife. What did you use?
Now for more in depth stuff.
I enjoy the challenge of being asked what is a disciple? What does one look like? I think that through talking to several cp's it is often something that is not thought about or given the attention to that it should be. It is the whole thought of thinking about the end project first then working our way backwards on how to get it all accomplished.
It kind of reminds me of when Rick Warrens book "Purpose Driven church" hit the market and everyone was reading it as it was totally new stuff. People didn't take the time to think through what they were doing or why, they were just doing it.
I think we can really get caught doing what you mentioned in the video, chasing the newest technology, methods, ideas etc and for many that also means spending more of our time trying to figure out how to do video editing, our new smart phones, or many other destractions with all of our new toys and the whole time not spending as much time with the kids.
Just for the record, I have been caught in this same trap and am really talking to myself.
Anyway, great video good points and I too look forward to reading more discussions here as more people view it and read it.

This was very good and timely. We are working on how to communicate to our small group leaders their roles and for some reason when you said "Who are my Disciples?" it struck a core with me. I know that we all want that but I need my small group leaders to work at making disciples throughout the year not just on Sunday mornings. I think those words will resinate with them. We are currently working on what our kids should look like when they leave our ministry and plan on allowing the next step (jr high pastor) provide input on how we are doing so we are figuring it out but this wording and lesson was perfect. Thanks Karl for your heart in helping us further the kingdom! You are affecting the lives of kids in California (yes the land of In N Out)

The video was great! I felt challenged on many levels.
One thing that I have struggled w/ the entire time where I presently minister, is I feel the kids are only interested in the fun. I feel like programming-wise we give them am material and content to develop disciples...but the only thing they desire is the fun. I know that kids are entertainment driven, but to encourage worship or spending time with god in any portion is like pulling teeth.

Your presentation took me back to an experience in seminary. Prof Howard Hendricks concluded a class on "Principles of Discipleship" with a similar challenge. He said, "When I come to visit your places of ministry, I will ask you only one question: 'Show me your disciples.'"

So how are you guys making disciples?
After watching the video, I felt like hanging my head in shame. I've been way too focused on attendance and fun. (Top wants numbers, Kids want fun) I guess it was a great wakeup call to ask What does God want?

wow!!! this was great stuff...I've been wrestling with this issue myself...sometimes it seems like we are trying to out-do ourselves every week by making things more and more remarkable.
It encouraged me as we have made some strides towards being more relational and making sure that our content was not only relational but that the biggest part of the kids "got it"
Thank you so much Karl what a challenging and refreshing word all at the same time!

As I watched I felt "it". You know that feeling you get when God is telling you that's "it". I knew immediately that this teaching was for me and my kids. Thank you for being so commited and putting this training in the hands of so many. Kidology has been a life line to me. Knowing that I am not alone, is a wonderful feeling. I already feel myself getting on the track, and making the first slow steps to winning the race. Thank you.
