What ministry philosophies have you adopted that may need to be changed?

Top 10 worst ministry philosophies of all time...all guaranteed to stop you and your church from doing ANYTHING remarkable…ever

10. We never did it that way before.

Maybe it’s time for a change. If you want to make sure you get the same results you’ve always had, then just do what you have always done.

9. But what if it doesn’t work?

What if it does? Imagine what might happen if it did work.

8. What will people say?

If it works they’ll say “wow.” But realize that if any idea cannot be criticized then it is NOT a remarkable idea. Only safe, mundane ideas are impervious to criticism.

7. The safest place is the center of God’s will.

Tell that to the Apostle Paul. Sometimes big ideas are risky and even dangerous.

6. I don’t believe in change for the sake of change.

Be honest. Change freaks you out. Sometimes things need to change just so people learn to deal with change.

5. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel.

I’m glad the auto industry didn’t say that when looking at the covered wagon. Something may seem to work fine, but that doesn’t mean it is the best way to do it.

4. If it was good enough for (___), then it’s good enough for us.

So do you still use a quill? If it was good enough for George Washington…

3. Let’s think out of the box.

If you have to say that, you have no idea how to do it. This outdated phrase has got to go.

2. First we have to get our ducks in a row.

Your ducks will NEVER be in a row. There will never be a perfect situation for change.

1. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

It’s broken already, you just don’t know it yet. And it depends on what you mean by “broken.” Something might have long outlived its usefulness without being obviously broken. The telephone system of the past was not “broken” but cell phones have been a big improvement. Do you remember what it was like paying long distance phone rates?
