Slimed for Jesus!
Last week I got slimed. It was a reward for the kids reaching our Missions Project fund raising goal. It was ooey and gooey but oh, so fun! The kids loved it!
As a children’s pastor I’ve been slimed, pied in the face, dunked, and a host of other “sufferings for Jesus!” It is so fun to allow the children to have fun at our expense. While “suffering” is a bit of a stretch when we consider the genuine suffering that many of our brothers and sisters in Christ face around the globe, it is still a choice we make to go through some uncomfortable, yucky, cold inconvenience in order to create an environment and experience for kids that they will remember for a life-time. I don’t enjoy being slimed! I’m a neat-freak – that guy who uses napkins after every bite. The kids were shocked when I admitted I’ve never had ribs my entire life – despite hearing they are tasty – simply because they are too sticky and messy for me to eat! But why do I choose to set aside my comfort for the kids? It’s for the same reason our Savior did. Out of love.
What have you done to show self-sacrificial love to your kids? Share on the Kidology Facebook Group what you’ve done – or plan to do – to “suffer” so that the kids know you love them. I’d love to hear your stories!
You can watch my misery on this YouTube video. I just hope I’m never asked to eat ribs for raising a thousand dollars!
