Dad, I Need to Talk

My son came down yesterday while I was busy working and asked if I minded if he played with my toy marquee sign and changed the message. I said, “Go for it!” and showed him where all the letters were. A few minutes later he says it is ready for viewing. I was surprised to see it said, “TO DAD I NEED TO TALK OK?”

Wow! Kids have a way of getting our attention. So I sat down, put my arm around him and asked, “Well, what do you want to talk about?” I was secretly wondering if it was serious; perhaps something had happened at school, or maybe it was time for The Talk.

What happened next was a great reminder to me that I need to be spending more time with My Heavenly Father too. Read the story here.

Printable Devotionals for Kids

It’s difficult to teach the importance of daily Bible reading to kids. Leah Pittsinger of Ministry to Children has put together some monthly devotionals to get you, and them, started.

"I’ve struggled for quite some time to help the 5th and 6th graders in my Sunday school class understand the importance of daily Bible reading and prayer. It can be challenging for anyone to start (and stick with) the habit of daily time with the Lord, but it’s even more true for today’s youth who are busier and face more distractions than ever! So I put together a monthly guide with a few verses and a question they can answer in a journal to start learning how to study God’s word."

Don't Be A Turkey! Get "Operation: Thanks"

We live in a "gimmie-gimmie" culture that focuses on how much it can get. God wants us to have an attitude of gratitude for the many blessings we already have.

The purpose of this unit is not only to help kids focus on being thankful, but to challenge them to think of some people that they haven't expressed thanks to, and help them think of some ideas to express their thanks in practical ways.

Theme Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 - "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
