I still remember the day my dad read me 1 Corinthians 11:1, "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ." He told me, "Son, when you see me being like Jesus, then I want you to imitate me. But when you see me not being like Jesus, please don't be like me in those times, because I'm not perfect, and sometimes I won't set a good example. In those times, I ask you to forgive me, and just skip over me, and imitate Jesus instead."

 Father's Day

I always appreciated that talk, because it gave me permission to model my life after the best of my dad, while at the same time to allow him to be human and real. Forgiving him was easy, because he let me know in advance I'd need to. And the best part of it was that it made forgiving myself easier too as I quickly figured out I wasn't perfect either.

Now that I'm a dad, I'll get to read the same verse to my son soon as I try to be a good example to him as to what a follower of Jesus is... and is not.

Happy Father's Day, Dad, and thanks for not being a perfect dad - but a real dad. Something I can aspire to be too.

Abuse Allegations
Abuse AllegationsFrom the Kidology Forums, member Chewy discusses a troubling situation:

...this child has had 2 broken arms and then arrived at church a week ago with a pretty severe bruise on their arm.

I talked to my Sr. Pastor about concern over their issues. He has reassured me that I am a mandatory reporter and I am obligated to report any issues or reports provided me by my team to the authorities. That being said, he asked me to sit down with the parent and discuss the concern regarding their child...

My question is, "What would you do?"

Teaching Kids Doctrine
Teaching Kids Doctrine

Marty Martin, Kidology To Go Coordinator, is traveling across the country in his RV providing mobile children's ministry training.  While traveling, he put some thoughts together about teaching kids doctrine:

There has been a lot of recent talk in the evangelical church world about the existence of heaven and hell. Along with these discussions, there are other doctrines that many feel need a resurgence in emphasis in our churches.

You may have your own plan for passing on the elements of our faith to kids under your care...
