Kidology on FacebookSocial Media and Ministry

Social MediaI both love social media and fear it. I can't attack it too much or I'd be a hypocrite. I have over 10,000 "tweets" so far, and nearing 1,000 friends on Facebook, but why do I still feel so lonely? Social networking is a part of my daily, err, moment-by-moment life.

But enter children into the conversation... and the conversation shifts. Is it good for them? Unfortunately, folks, there is an element of surrender here. Frankly, we can't stem this tide - only steer it. Let's look at it from a different or historical angle. How many teenagers DIE annually driving cars? Do we ban them from driving? Perhaps we should! Unfortunately, that will never happen. You, like them, were destined to drive...

Kidz Blitz: Pumping Up Children's Ministry
Kidz Blitz"Object Lessons on Steroids! That's how I described Kidz Blitz when I first saw it at my church back in 1999 at the very first Kid U conference," remarks Karl Bastian.

"Children's Pastors have been using object lessons for as long as... well, since Jesus used them! But it was Roger Fields who decided to take them and blow them up ten times bigger (sometimes literally!)"

"Roger Fields, the creator of Kidz Blitz, is a pioneer of Children's Ministry. In fact, he was one of the first workshop presenters I heard at my first CPC waaaay back in 1995. I loved this guy's passion and unique approach to ministry. Right away I knew he was someone to watch, learn from, and approach ministry differently than everyone else. He isn't afraid to try new things - whatever it takes to reach kids."

... including using his T.P. Blower!

How I Got An Admin
Hire MeIt's now time for a story...

"There once was a children's pastor who worked for a wonderful senior pastor at a church with many pastors who all oversaw an area of ministry they each thought was the most important area of ministry. (Of course, according to George Barna, the children's pastor was right!)

Nevertheless, the senior pastor saw them all as equal, and therefore tried to always treat them as equal - and deal with them fairly, even when equal was the farthest thing from fair..."
