Topic: Reminder for Busy Times in Life

Life gets crazy this time of year. Here is a hypothetical conversation between a children’s ministry leader and God. Is this YOU?

Be Still. Be Still... BE STILL!!!

Life gets crazy this time of year. The fall programming is now in full swing, Christmas planning is just around the corner, and your life currently consists of writing emails, mentoring volunteers, working on curriculum, taking classes, planning events, etc.

The following is a hypothetical conversation between a children’s ministry leader and God. The conversation unraveled in the following way:

God: Hey! It’s going to be alright, you don’t need to worry so much about everything. I will make sure that everything I want to get done will be done.

(Person runs around, doing various things and not listening to God)

God: No really, it will be ok. I am in control.

(Person is still running around, anxiously trying to get everything done perfectly)

God: Hey, you need to be still. I can get these things done with or without you.

(Person looks around for a second, but then dives back into work)

God: My child, be still. You need to be still.

(Person still ignores God and runs around, stressing out and frantically looking for a To-Do List)

God: Child, be still. Be still! BE STILL!!!!!

(Startled, the person looked up confused)

God: Child, BE STILL, and know that I am God. I am in control. Whether I use you for these things or use someone else, My will shall be done. Rejoice that I use you for these things, but always know that I am the One who does these things through you. Don’t forget the reason why you are here on this earth: to glorify me in everything you do. Don’t forget about me when you are trying to bring me glory. It’s not all about the programming, the trainings, the classes, the curriculum, etc. It’s about Me.

Ok, let’s be honest. Does this person sound like you? I know that I fit perfectly into this profile. While striving valiantly to glorify God in everything we do, we can easily lose sight of the One for whom we are working. God is in control. We have no need to be anxious, and we do not need to forsake time with the One whom we are serving.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
