Be a Blockhead!

We just kicked off a new series with a Minecraft theme. The kids went nuts when they saw our set, complete with a Portal which will lead actors off stage and onto the screen in video game dramas. But the most fun I had last Sunday was walking around with my “Steve Head” on. (That’s me with my senior pastor, Bruce.)

I often use some crazy costume to mingle with the adults after church. Whether it’s my usual National Park Ranger outfit (our kids ministry is KidsRock and our children’s church is The Outpost) or a walking snowman at Christmas, or our Roman Solider during the previous series on the Armor of God – when you allow the general populous of the church to get glimpses of what is happening in the children’s area, it is better than any bulletin announcement, flyer or recruiting e-mail – because they SEE that serving in children’s ministry is fun and engaging. I can’t tell you how many times people have come and said to me, “I want to serve in the kids ministry somehow; it just seems like a fun place to serve.”

So be a blockhead or whatever it takes to take the fun of the kids ministry out to where it can be seen. If you are portraying excitement and fun and energy – people will want to be a part of what you are doing.

Don’t be the best kept secret in the church!

Because Jesus Loves Children,

How Do You Address Room Capacity Issues?

Join our discussion on Facebook. If you haven’t joined the page, now’s your chance!

Do you use room capacity and/or volunteer-to-kids ratios to limit the number of kids in your rooms? We have had to address this, as our church is growing and we have had too many kids in some rooms to where it was unsafe. Attached is a proposal I put together for my leadership suggesting that we need to limit and close the room. I'm curious how others address this.

Egglo Glow in the Dark Easter Eggs

Hold a nighttime egg hunt event and make Jesus the focus. Children search in the darkness for eggs that represent Jesus, the light of the world.

Egglo Eggs aren't just for Easter. They are fun in crafts, use in a Christmas stocking, tucked in a lunch box with a treat, leave as a gift with a special note to spread the light of Jesus: on a doorstep, in a mailbox or locker, tucked in a bag or back pack, or even mail one! Egglo eggs make wonderful tools to continue the conversation about Jesus.

Egglo eggs are complemented by The Egg-cellent Easter Adventure Video Book and The Egg-cellent Easter Adventure Program Guide and other Egglo Products available on Kidology
