IT'S URGENT!
How "urgent" are the urgent things in your life? I'm slowly learning that much of what I consider urgent, isn't truly urgent at all. It usually has more to do with my URGEs than being genuinely urgent. My urge to produce, my urge to succeed, my urge to accomplish, my urge to create security, my urge to finish things, my urge to start things, my urge to get on to the next thing.

The key is not to get them all done, it is to LIVE LIFE IN THE MIDST OF THEM. To make sure I truly live when and where I am, instead of living in an imaginary future when I am out from under pending projects, since that time will most likely never exist.

AS SEEN IN Children's Ministry Magazine
Kidology Online TrainingYou may have read Karl Bastian's article titled "The New Deal" in the Jan/Feb 2009 issue of Children's Ministry Magazine. It mentioned Karl's philosophy on Partnering with Parents, the focus of our best selling Kidology Online Training unit.

If the very thought of 'family ministry' and 'partnering with parents' stirs up feelings of failure and discouragement, maybe it's time to change the way you think about ministering to kids and parents!

MOVIE REVIEW: BEDTIME STORIES
Bedtime Stories"This is a Disney movie, but it is an Adam Sandler movie," notes Kidology CP Team member Nancy Keith in her review of Bedtime Stories. "Marry the two and you get a funny, yet slightly crude movie that teaches more bad lessons than good... but in a good-natured way."

"As CP's we are on a different plane. We are looking for ways to uplift and teach. Spiritually, we are on a very different page. While I enjoyed this movie and laughed along with it, part of me kept saying, 'Why did you have to...?'"

"This is not a movie for the younger set. For the older set, have fun, but get ready to undo all the don'ts that you see after the movie."

As with all Kidology movie reviews, we provide children's ministry-oriented teaching tools such as an overview, areas of concern, teachable themes with scripture, and discussion questions.

KIDOLOGY REPORT: NURTURING THE LEADER...
The back of Nurturing the Leader Within Your Child reads, "this book is written for parents who desire to unleash the yet-undiscovered leaders in their children," explains Kidology CP Team Captain Todd McKeever.

"In a time when parents are struggling to figure out how to help their kids beyond just always getting them the latest and greatest new toy, this book will help parents discover their leadership potential with their kids, regardless of personality traits or style."

"Dr. Tim Elmore uses the information that he had collected from over 3,000 students as he enters the minds of today's youth to understand their desire to affect their world, their way."

MOVIE REVIEW: THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX
The Tale of Despereaux"The Tale of Despereaux is a movie based on the book, The Tale of Despereaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup, and a Spool of Thread written by Kate DiCamillo, which won the Newbery Medal in 2004."

Kidology CP Team member Nancy Keith notes in her review of this film that "if you know anything about heroes you know that a hero doesn't appear until the world really needs one."

"This would be a wonderful movie just on the merits of that story, but deeper, this is a story that teaches about forgiveness. In fact, it characterizes asking for forgiveness as a noble quest."

SPEAKING THE LANGUAGE OF KIDS
Episode 9 of Kidology's Children's Ministry Podcast is available for download. In this free podcast, Karl begins a 3-part series on how to be a Children's Ministry Missionary - reaching kids from within their culture.

This episode focuses on speaking the language of kids and provides some perhaps unexpected insights into how to use humor in a way that bonds with children, and it has nothing to do with telling jokes. Brought to you by our friends at God Rocks.

MOVIE REVIEW: MARLEY & ME
Marley & Me"If you watched the trailers for Marley & Me, you would think that it was a dog-centric movie in the Beethoven genre. Marley is billed as the 'world’s worst dog'."

"When I went to see this film, that’s what I expected, as did the theater full of families with children. This is a wonderful movie, but it is a film for grown-ups"
