I'm kind of struggling with it so far.
It seems like an extension of K!/kidzblitz/JWM.... (I HATE being a wet blanket...) I don't see other ministries collaborated with it. Where does this put INCM? What about our Canadian Friends like Henry? I'm not part time or full time... I just live the call and make my money somewhere besides the church.

In Canada here also, not sure if it will work up here?
Also several communities already have local CM gatherings. Where does that leave those, can they join or will they have to disband?
Not really against this, it is a cool concept, but there are some issues. I'm sure they will find they need to answer. I too feel like it needs to have a bigger tent with groups like INCM and Kidology invovled, but maybe that is coming later?

I have to say I agree with llyolf and Marty, I love all these people that are involved with this, they are tops in what they do, but what makes this different than anything that is out there? Is there a need for an official association? I really don't need another certificate on my wall. I am part of a local network already, and I have subscriptions to K, the Club and CM Connect.
Why pay $79 to have what I already have? My passion for the children and families is just as strong as theirs, my standards are just as high and my calling just as strong.
I'll have to pray over this and read it closer, just my first glance observations, (don't stone me, until I've finished VBS and have time to read all about it.)

Fast forward five to ten years after this has taken off and it could be something that everyone needs. Right now it isn't a recognized organization but it could very well become like ACA (American Camp Association). It is very hard for a camp facility to stay in business without joining ACA.
Right now there could still be an advantage for those who choose to join because of the free subscriptions and discounts on services that are offered but to advertise that you are a member of ACMA right now won't really open any doors or make your ministry more trustworthy at this point.
So far there is nothing to make me want to join today, but there is a good team leading the associaton and I think it will gain momentum as time goes on.

Actually it isn't for everyone. There are specific qualifications candidates must meet before being accepted into membership. This should not be surprising. Other professional associations are similar in this regard, although this is the first time we have seen something like this for CM. You may read their membership requirements at http://www.acmaonline.org/ACMA/Membership.html
Despite having some of the qualifications, such as education and ordination, I do not have all the qualifications. Therefore I do not have to debate whether to apply for membership. I am sure others are in the same situation. Personally, I wish them well and pray it is a blessing to many. I think these are all first rate quality people leading it, so I know they will provide an excellent service. Time will tell whether it gains traction for the longterm. While I was disappointed at first to see that I could not qualify, I recognize it is probably for the best as I am too busy anyway in my local ministry to add one more thing to do.

I think caution is wise - wait and watch. $79 is a LOT of money for what? Let it play out. It has potential, but I'd like to see a wider circle represented and some clear accountability as to how the funds are used. Is this a non-profit or just a way to make money? Not sure it's needed. But time will tell.

I'll eagerly await our invitation to be a part of it - I think Kidology has a lot to offer something like this! and INCM would definitely add credibility, and with Ryan's connection, I'd assume it's coming soon. I'll eagerly watch to see how it develops. Too bad it had to start with "American" - but perhaps other regions will still be welcome and understand that the organization is centered in America, which is fine with me!

Interesting reading everything above and the different views and opinions. I also think it will be interesting to see how it all plays out and definitely thought Gerrys comment with the fast forward part was interesting as well:
"Fast forward five to ten years after this has taken off and it could be something that everyone needs. Right now it isn't a recognized organization but it could very well become like ACA (American Camp Association). It is very hard for a camp facility to stay in business without joining ACA."
I too would love to see Kidology in the mix as well. I think this idea is great though and has a ton of potential. Jim is and has always been a pioneer type person on the forefront of children's ministry. If there is a type of person who can help make this idea a success one of them is definitely Jim. I wish we could fast forward the 5 years...

Thanks ya'll for your comments and questions. we're working the bugs out and going to make this work. I really appreciate your prayers. We've gotten a tremendous responce so far. This is something we've been workjing on for almost a year. I believe it's going to be a blessing to the greater cause.
I also think you'll be surprized about all the discounts that will be offered to ACMA members.
wanting to make a difference
