I'm enjoying the Network Forums tremendously. So many great ideas. This beats a conference! Through the Network I can find out specific answers to my questions at the time I am seeking the answers instead of banking a ton of ideas that I can't implement. And the answers come from the experts - Children's Pastors just like me who are asking the same questions, and are great at giving good solid answers.

I am venturing into something new this Sunday.

We are going to do a completely kid led children's church.  I met with the kids last week and gave them all their parts and they are excited!  Several have told their parents that they can go out of town for the Fourth of July but they are staying to do their part in Children's Church.

Anyone else out there doing this?  If so, any tips.  I am even letting a kid do the sermon.  I think I may let the kids do everything every week, except for the sermon.

I think that's great. I find the more you can get the kids involved, the better they retain what you're teaching. Best of luck!

We have used kid directed services for a long time. Often times we will announce once a month that it will be a "Kids" service. Here is where the kids run it all. I usually work with the one preparing the message and have my other leaders help the others brainstorm, create, and all the other elements as well.

We are also running in August a Kids Ministry Arts camp where we have invited churches from all over to bring their teams, their kids etc to have the opportunity to be trained in puppets, drama, worship, video, clowning, Characters, Object lessons and more. This is for the purpose of helping them to have the tools when they go back to their own churches they can have the kids run the services or who ever they use.

That sounds great.  I agree that everything except teaching could be done by a kid.  While we use our kids on lots of ministry teams, it might be fun to do a service that it totally kid-led!  Thanks for the idea.

As you'll learn in the Kids Church Book, when I do children's church it is almost entirely run by kids, my "K.C. Krew." It is a GREAT idea! I have even let them write (with coaching) and teach the lesson, but on a normal sunday, I teach, but they do EVERYTHING else.

I agree with all.  I use kids as much as possible.  We also take about three services a year and have a kid lead 'adult church.'  In other words... we leave the children's area and invade the main sanctuary and run the adult service.  The kids do it all... our kids choir sings and everything.  They love working in their own service but they REALLY love doing it for the adults.

Inspired by this post, and one other, I posted info and an entire children's church service that was completely written and run by children, check it out here: When Kids take over Kids Church.

ENJOY!
