Kidology rocks my world. Thanks for all you do. I went to a conference of yours around 8 years ago. Been hooked on what you do ever since.

Karl Bastian spoke at the OCEA Christian Ministries Conference held at The Chapel in Akron, OH from March 2-4.

This event was hosted by the Ohio Christian Education Association and featured 3 of Karl's popular workshops: "Kidology 101: A Study of Kids and Their World", "Putting the 'Pastor' Back in Your Job Description: Time Management and Decision Skills That Will Return 'Ministry' to Your Ministry!", and "Partnering With Parents: A Revolutionary Concept in an Age-Old Struggle".

Did you attend? Discuss the event, get more info about the workshops, and connect with others!

Welcome OCEA attendees! As promised, I have put my workshop notes and powerpoint slides (as PDFs) on the site. Here are the links to each workshop. Thank you for all the encouragement, it was an incredible event!

WORKSHOP NOTES / POWERPOINT SLIDE PDFS:

1. Kidology 101 Effective RELATIONAL MINISTRY!

2. K.C. Krew Using kids to plan, prepare, and pull off Kids Church!

3. Putting the 'Pastor' Back into Your Job Description Designed for those 'in charge' but helpful for anyone getting overwhelmed in life or ministry.

4. Partnering with Parents a BRAND NEW workshop! This was the first time I taught this workshop dealing with the issue of giving the children's ministry BACK to the parents.

Tapes of these workshops are available at: DoveTapes.com (direct link to OCEA) [It looks like they haven't listed individual workshops yet, but probably soon.]

I'm looking forward to feedback from those of you I got to meet this weekend!

I went to three of the four workshops (Kidology 101, K.C. Crew, and Partnering with Parents).  Thank you so much!  I only wish I would have gone to all four!  They were great!

My church is rather small, but I plan altering some of your suggestions to fit our needs.  I especially loved the idea of having the kids more involved in ministry!  As I picture doing some of these things with our kids, I see them becoming more focused on serving with love and kindness as they draw closer to God, and less concerned about trying to compete and impress each other.  And that means less disciplining and more learning about Jesus!

I thought your ideas for getting parents to be more committed were excellent too!  What would you suggest for the kids who's parents don't attend?  Some of our kids come with their grandparents, etc. so I can see how we could alter the VIP thing to include them, but I realize it's really the parents we need to connect with.    And what do you do with the kids who are basically there by themselves?   Has the VIP program encouraged unchurched parents to start attending and become more involved too?

Thanks again for your ministry!  I stumbled upon Kidology.org a couple of years ago while searching for something I could use for a superbowl themed lesson.  I love this website!  I come back to it again and again for ideas, tips and inspiration!  You and your team are truly a blessing!

We were able to attend 3 of the 4 seminars that Pastor Karl did at OCEA (unfortunately we missed the Partnering with Parents seminar).

The first three workshops were very uplifting and confirming for us.  Some parents and some older folks in our congregation think I am crazy for doing some of the things that I do with kids, but what they do not realize is that I am connecting with children in their world.  I embrace the label "weird" from people.   In fact I beleive that being "weird" is actually a core value for me.  It allows me to instantly break into children's worlds.

It was great to be able to meet Pastor Karl in person and bounce ideas off of him.  He is very gracious and down to earth.  One of the best things about him is that he treats everyone as an equal.  Many presenters and speakers carry with them a sense of arrogance, but there is none of that with Pastor Karl.  We at First Christian in Canton, OH and our surrounding Children's Ministry Network in Stark County are very appreciative of the ministry that Kidology provides.

Thank you for posting the notes from the seminars.  And thank you for the one on one time we had at the Spaghetti Warehouse.

Feedback via e-mail:

I truly enjoyed your workshop at the O.C.E.A. conference (2006). I couldn't wait to download the material...I could not get in the Kidology 101 but was excited when I was able to hang on to my seat for How to pull off Kids church. Your material and information was wonderful and I am wired up... Great weekend and I anticipate becoming a member of your site...Excellent job and your passion for children touched my heart to know that is is okay to be wacky with ideas for Christ to bring children close to Him as they develope a sincere walk in the Word of God. Be Blessed in the Lord and continue to Shine in your Walk...You have
certainly been an inspirational blessing to me this weekend.

-Jean Cotton-Burrell

Pastor Karl: I wanted to say a quick thanks for your wonderful presentations at the OCEA Conference. You not only gave me some great ideas, but you changed my attitude towards children's ministries. May God continue to bless your ministry and I hope you are asked to come back to the OCEA Conference next year. Have a great day and keep up the great work. -Bruce Sexton

We thank you for the encouragement!

Pastor Karl,

THANK YOU!!!!  I loved your classes at OCEA.  You made me stop & think & ask God want He wants me to do with my kids.  My mom & brother couldn't attend OCEA, because my brother fell & got hurt.  Mom listened to the CD's I bought & just loved your teaching.  God blessed us through you.  Thank you for allowing God to use you to teach others.  I also enjoy your kidology.org.  We're planning on going to your K U workshops in Columbus in the fall. God Bless you--Dawn Smith
