The VIP Couch

I am always on the look out for super creative and original ideas that others may want to learn about. While there were many things I was impressed with on my most recent church visit, the coolest thing I got to both see and experience was the VIP Couch in the children’s church room.

In the front of the room they have a big couch. Guests (as well as the friend who brought them) are invited to sit on the couch for the entire service... but there's more! A child also volunteers to serve them yummy snacks throughout the service!

This is a great way to honor guests, to give kids an incentive to invite a friend, and to provide a way for another child to serve others. Making kids feel welcome shows their value, and something like this not only encourages them to come again, but to bring a friend.

What are you doing to welcome guests and make them feel special? I’d love to hear what you do!

The Benefits of Rebooting Your Children's Ministry

Does your kidmin need a reboot? Do something fresh and new to not only draw in new families, but to give the kids some new excitement for learning the Word! Mimi Bullock brings her tips for a ministry reboot:

Don’t you love the phrase “do over?” I do! Especially when it concerns children’s ministry, because I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I always fall short. A few times in my life I’ve had the pleasure of heading up a reboot for children’s church...

Keep in mind I’m talking about more than a remodel project. More than slapping a new name on an old ministry. I mean a bonafide reboot. Why am I such a fan of starting over and what can it do for you?

YOU Are a Bible Character!

Did you know that YOU are a Bible character? It’s true! Consider this. DiscipleTown Unit 21 contains a lesson that is all about sharing your story with your students when you have done yourself what you are asking them to do. It’s all about BEING what you are TEACHING. That makes YOU a “Bible Character.”

We often tell Bible stories and forget that these Bible “characters” were just ordinary people like us. They didn’t know their stories would end up in the Bible. They just made choices like you and I have. So, in a sense, your story is as much a Bible story as Joseph or Esther or Ruth or Daniel. And your story will mean as much to your students as those in the Bible. Perhaps more... because your kids actually know you!
