Expressive Facial Expressions!

Your face says it all! Want your story telling to have greater impact? You'll need a skill that feels silly when you first start to practice it, but it makes a huge difference in your effectiveness. It's the skill of
being expressive!

It takes intentional effort at first, but will come naturally over time. It flows out of realizing that the impact of what you say fades as it approaches your audience. What is natural in a one-on-one conversation is especially minimized when you are in front of a group. A smile one-on-one is a straight face to a group. A laugh close up is a chuckle to an audience. Every emotion and expression is reduced as it travels the distance from you to your audience. It is taken down a notch or two. How do you compensate for this? Simple. You take your expressions up a notch when you are in front of a group.

You will feel like you are being too loud or too expressive but the reality is you will actually be truly expressing the reality you intend - especially when it comes to children. If you want to express happiness or excitement, your face needs to really show those emotions. If you want to express sadness, or surprise or anger, your face needs to show them 200%, and your audience will be drawn in 200%. It is powerful and effective and will have them on the edge of their seat. You will have them feeling like what you are saying truly matters.

Rather than "Ho-hum, just another lesson," your face says, "This is important - this matters - I'm passionate about this!"

Karl in California at Servant's Conference
CMSC Conference

If you live in or near Southern California, I invite you to join me at the Children's Ministry Servant's Conference March 27 and 28, 2015.

I'm excited about this conference because it reminds me so much of the Kidology University conferences I did for ten years (15 events in three states!) and the spirit behind them that was exactly why I did those.

I'll be serving as the keynote speaker on Saturday, with Steve Alley on Friday. I'd love to see you there if you live in the Southern California area. I can see already it'll be a great event for a super low price.
