Jesus or Moses?

Years ago in an inner city ministry, I had a little boy in my class named Trevon. No matter what the lesson topic or Bible story, any time I asked a question his hand shot up and he was eager to answer. The only problem was, no matter what I asked, he always answered with an enthusiastic, "Moses!"

Feeling badly for him always being wrong, one Sunday I thought I'd be smart and "rig" the Q and A time for little Trevon. I asked, "Who did God give the Ten Commandments to?" Of course, Trevon's hand shot up again! I smiled as I called on him knowing he would finally be right!

Instead, he hesitated and then timidly answered, "Jesus?" I was as dejected as Trevon when I had to say, "No, Trevon, it was Moses." I felt terrible. I thought I had set this little guy up for success, but instead, I had caused him to fail yet again. That was when I learned a powerful teaching lesson....

Guard Your Heart Valentine's Game
Guard Your Heart

Guard Your Heart is an object lesson game that can be used for Valentine's Day or any teaching situation that features Proverbs 4:23 - "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."

The object of this game is the guard your own paper heart while trying to capture others. However, as revealed at the end of the game, the winner is not the player with the most captured hearts. Rather, the winners are those who still retain their own heart, no matter how many they have captured!

Karl in California at Servant's Conference
CMSC Conference

If you are in Southern California, I invite you to join me at the Children's Ministry Servant's Conference March 27 and 28, 2015.

I'm excited about this conference because it reminds me so much of the Kidology University conferences I did for ten years (15 events in three states!) and the spirit behind them that was exactly why I did those.

I'll be serving as the keynote speaker on Saturday, with Steve Alley on Friday. I'd love to see you there if you live in the Southern California area. I can see already it'll be a great event for a super low price.

9 Habits of Highly Productive People

9 Habits

Want to be more productive in the new year? Todd McKeever brings you a list of habits you may want to consider incorporating into the New Year to make yourself more productive in your ministry.

"I have a tradition at the end of each year of examining the habits that have helped me to be more productive, and identifying habits I could discard that never benefited me the way I hoped they would. I also look at the lives of those I believe to be very productive, and examine what habits they have developed that contribute toward their productivity."
