The Hunger Games "A little bit of hope," the President says, is what is needed, "but not too much." Just the right amount, he says, is far better than fear for controlling the masses.

This is one of the many messages of The Hunger Games, a movie that blew away Twilight on its opening night, and in its second week, has given a beating at the box office to both Mirror Mirror and Wrath of the Titans.

What is so powerful about this film? Young people are flocking to it, and others, like myself, are going to see what all the fuss is about. The plot, at its simplest description, is revolting to many.

However, at a deeper level, it is symbolic of the loss of innocence of our generation...

DiscipleTown #17 - How to Be a Global Christian
"How to Be a Global Christian""Go Global!"

How to Be a Global Christian is Unit 17 in the DiscipleTown Kid's Church curriculum series from Karl Bastian and DiscipleLand.

Christians must expand their horizons and embrace God's heart for people all over the world. By broadening kids' perspectives to see beyond their local church and community, this unit will enable your children to grasp God's great plan and to participate in His Great Commission.

First, children need to see that God has a plan for every person to know His Son, Jesus. Next, they need to understand the Good News that Jesus came to bring salvation to every person - everywhere - so they will be able to share it. Then, they must understand that God uses His Church to spread His Good News around the world. Finally, they need to be challenged to have "beautiful feet" by sharing God's wonderful message.

Last year we did a series about gifts and talents. At the closing of the lesson we really wanted to drive home the idea of using your gifts and talents to bring praise to God and reach out to other people in the Name of Christ.

We gave each of the kids an index card on which they were instructed to write their gifts, talents, and what they wanted to be when they grow up. Once they were done, each child was given a helium balloon...
