That's a Lot of Agains!

We've finished up the next DiscipleTown unit, "How to Make Good Choices."  It's hard to believe I've written 6 of these (and that I have 18 more to go)!

I always marvel how each unit convicts me, seeming to be exactly what I needed to review in my own walk with God.  The writing process reminds me how much I enjoy developing a 4-week spiritual journey for children to explore so they can grow closer to Jesus.

Let me share one of my favorite elements from Lesson 3.  It is a routine I use with my puppet, Gus. Of course, in the curriculum Gus' name gets dropped (Sorry Gus!) so that teachers can replace him with their own puppet.  I remember this routine fondly for both the humor and the poignant impact this routine has on children. It's a description, not a script, but you'll get the idea...

DiscipleTown #6 - How to Make Good Choices
"How to Make Good Choices"How to Make Good Choices, Unit 6 in the DiscipleTown Kid's Church curriculum series from Karl Bastian and DiscipleLand, is now available!

Many parents pray long and hard that their children will make good choices. It is essential that we equip children while they are young with decision-making skills that will enable them to weigh and evaluate alternatives.

This unit will help your children understand the power they have to choose between right and wrong. They will learn how to win the spiritual battle that rages inside, as well as what to do after they make a bad choice - as we all do far too many times. You will encourage your kids to listen to the positive influences that help guide them toward sound choices along the way.

Yosemite Summit: What I Learned Last Year
Yosemite Summmit"I suppose it's time to start sharing what I experienced at Yosemite Summit last year. I knew I needed this, but I didn't realize how much so until I got there.

The beauty of Yosemite National Park is amazing. Words and pictures just don't do it justice. To be so close to God through nature was an amazing opportunity.

It was refreshing to be with eight other guys who cared about the same things I did, but also had the same struggles as well..."

-  Brent Peak, via the Yosemite Summit Blog

This 5-day adventure takes place May 23-27, 2010 at Yosemite National Park in California.

Limited to 8 men, it's a unique opportunity to get away from the office, the church, the phones, the Internet, and the busyness of life and ministry. Recuperate with fellow ministers while hiking, worshiping, and enjoying genuinely refreshing fellowship surrounded by vistas that only God could create.

Family Devotions: Obedience
Family Devotions
From the Family Devotions Zone, a story to share:

Mr. Sieler told his son just before he left for school, "Jeff, I want you to come straight home after school today."

"Sure, Dad," Jeff said as he walked out the door. After school, Jeff walked out with his friend, Matt, who suggested they stop and practice a little pitching at the baseball field. They both LOVED baseball and always took their baseball gloves and a ball with them to school. Jeff remembered that he was supposed to go straight home today, but he figured that his dad wouldn't get home until 5 so he had a little time...

Unbridled: Only 1 spot left!
Unbridled"Springtime is upon us in the Midwest!  The snow is melting away to reveal the bright green buds of springtime flowers.  Everything is wet, saturated from the months of melting snow but my heart rejoices because the green grass is poking through and that means we are one step closer to Unbridled

After experiencing such an amazing time of refreshment last year, I simply cannot wait for this retreat to get here this year!  My hope for you, as you sit at your computer and read this, is that you won't put off the nagging feeling that this is something you should attend."

- Children's Pastor Kim Bobb, via the Unbridled Blog

We just received another registration, which means that there's only 1 spot left to attend Unbridled!

Unbridled is our 2nd annual Kidology Women's Retreat at 3P Ranch in Circleville, Ohio, from May 24-26, 2010. We will be learning about horses, saddling up, hiking, spending time in the Word, having bonfires, enjoying nature, laughing, and bonding together.

Take a break, get away from the busyness of ministry, and listen to what the Lord has for you! Join us at Unbridled, but hurry before it's too late.  Will you be the final person to sign up?

Transitioning to Electronic Check-In
Check In
Kidology Forums member Chewy asks the following:

How have you overseen the transition from a sign-in system to electronic check-in?

This morning, one of my parents came in extremely upset, as they were not in favor of electronic check-in.  They threatened to pull their kids and have them sit with them in auditorium.

...What did you do to make the transition successful?
