Don't Forget the Main Ingredient

I travel to many churches as a guest speaker or trainer and am very often stunned by how little need there is for Bibles in most children's ministries. I consider  teaching with and out of a Bible to be the fundamental basis of my teaching.

I use puppets, object lessons, media clips, illusions, etc.  You-name-it, I've used it... to creatively teach and engage children, but never as a replacement or substitute for teaching with and out of a Bible. Only the Bible has God's promise of effectiveness. And yet, the Bible is a rare object in many children's ministries today. This is a tragedy.

I don't care how attractive your ministry facility is, how innovative your program, how creative your teaching - if you are neglecting to teach kids the value of God's Word by example (teaching with and from it) you are teaching them a lesson: that the Bible really isn't that important.

This is the topic of Part 3 in The Kids Church Cookbook... and probably the most important part. Why? Because in this installment, we discuss the "meat"... the most vital ingredient needed as a Chef of God's Word.

Because Jesus Loves Children,

Seminary to succeed?
Seminary to succeed?
Karl Bastian writes, "I got a Facebook message today from a children's pastor with an interesting question. His church is encouraging him to pursue a seminary degree but he wasn't convinced he needed to.

As he looked over the landscape of 'successful' children ministry professionals, his assumption was that many didn't have seminary degrees -- and that didn't seem to hinder their success in ministry.

Here's what I shared with him in case others are wrestling with that difficult decision..."

DiscipleTown #6 - How to Make Good Choices
"How to Make Good Choices"How to Make Good Choices, Unit 6 in the DiscipleTown Kid's Church curriculum series from Karl Bastian and DiscipleLand, is now available!

Many parents pray long and hard that their children will make good choices. It is essential that we equip children while they are young with decision-making skills that will enable them to weigh and evaluate alternatives.

This unit will help your children understand the power they have to choose between right and wrong. They will learn how to win the spiritual battle that rages inside, as well as what to do after they make a bad choice - as we all do far too many times. You will encourage your kids to listen to the positive influences that help guide them toward sound choices along the way.
